The
2010-2011 BNT V8s Championship second round held at the Powerbuilt
International Raceway on 26 -28 November for the ALTHERM 500 was a
mixed bag for the Concept Motorsport Total Lubricants Holden.
Saturday saw the Total Lubricants Holden testing in the two
pre-qualifying sessions with Ross posting competitive times to have him
placed at the sharper end of the field. That did not follow with
qualifying position with Ross starting race one from position 17.
“ We were going well, sitting at eighth to ninth position in initial
qualifying. We made some changes to the car expecting extra pace and
went backwards quickly.” Ross commented.
Following the qualifying disappointment the Concept Motorsport Team
prepared the car for race one on Sunday hoping to put Saturday behind
them.
Race One of the ALTHERM 500 saw the Concept Motorsport Total Lubricants
Holden start strongly and gain a number of positions following the
start but overshooting at the hairpin under brakes saw Ross go to the
back of the field where he remained until the chequered flag.
“I will take the finish and the straight car... yeah I am disappointed
but there are two races to go and anything can happen as we have seen
this morning”. said Ross Sunday.
Race Two and Ross finished in 15th position being a slightly better
result than race one.
“It's tough at the blunt end with a competitive field in this year's
championship. Ruapuna is a very technical track with very limited
passing opportunities, you need to be patient and not make mistakes.”
explained Ross.
Race three was shaping up to be a good race for Ross which saw him move
a couple of positions after the start to be sitting in third place
before some family love was dished out to Ross by brother-in-law Simon
Richards. Turning the Total Lubricants Holden around, Richards suffered
the consequences with the incident being deemed an infringement by
officials and Richards was given a drive through penalty.
Ross managed to get himself on track before finally finishing in 11th
position.
“It could have been worse, there was no serious damage as a result of
the incident.” said Ross. “Yeah family Christmas is still on.”
The weekends results were disappointing for the Concept Motorsport Team.
“Again we wanted to finish the weekend inside the top 10 and we have
slipped to 15th overall in the BNT V8s Championship. We will be
pushing hard to go better in the following South Island rounds in the
New Year, we will take this break and head South with positive changes
, we’re not going away”.
