Cambridge
driver Nick Ross believes that by unlocking the full potential of the
Holden's new controlled suspension parts he will be in a position to
producing another BNT V8s podium finish in the Total Lubricants
Commodore this weekend.
"We got second last time so this time we're going for a win!" exclaimed
Ross who posted his best result of the season last month at Timaru
International Motor Raceway.
A test session prior to this weekend's round five at Manfeild
Autocourse is expected to bring about the performance required to give
the car a leading pace and give Ross a race car which can once again
find the podium and potentially a win this time.
Ross led the vast majority of laps in race three at Timaru where he
held off V8 Supercar driver Jason Bargwanna until near the end where
the Aussie was eventuallly able to slip past with just a few laps left
before the chequered flag. Ross finished in second place ahead of a
hard charging John McIntyre.
New parts brought in for the Holdens do offer closer parity between the
chassis performance of the Holdens and Fords but require the teams to
come to grips with a new package developing that performance throughout
the season.
"We just need to get inside the window - if we step outside of that
window then we can be up to a second and a half down on the pace but
then if we get it right, then we will be right there!"
"And if we can get a good handle on the controlled parts for this
weekend then we are in with a chance and will be looking at being
inside the top 10." he said.
The superb drive by Ross which earned him second place at Timaru last
month was well received by the team and sponsors. Driven by the
excellent result Ross is more enthusiastic than ever to see open track
in front of him and the Total Lubricants Commodore.
"Our aim this weekend is to exceed our last podium performance and
improve by one place." he says simply.
The good news is the weather forecast for the weekend suggests that any
rain will hold off until Monday leaving Ross and the Concept Motorsport
Team to implement knowledge gleaned from the test session without the
variables of a wet circuit.
This weekend's meeting at Manfeild Autosourse is the fifth round of the
BNT V8s leaving just two rounds remaining in the series Taupo
Motorsport Park 12-13 March and the ITM 400 V8 Supercar meeting in
Hamilton 15-17 April.
Practice sessions, qualifying and the Top 10 Shootout take place on
Saturday with all three races held on Sunday and same-day televised on
TV3.
